Description

Good Day and Happy Sunday to all of my art friends out there! So, I've finished this painting I've been sharing with you since I painted the sky and mountain. I named this one “California Wildflowers near the Mountain”... Man, can you imagine that the early pioneers, or native American’s who lived in my home state of California may have seen some scenes such as this, even before it was a state, possibly. Maybe, there are still places like this in northern California, like Mt. Shasta, for example. This would be a springtime season, when all of the lovely native wildflowers are in bloom. Such as, California Poppies, and some wild mustered, for example. Anyway, I hope you all like the final painting, it was a fun project for sure! Take care and I hope you all have a lovely coming week ahead. :-) Your painter friend, Artist Dan Seitzinger – www.danseitzinger.com

I am getting some very strong Bob Ross vibes from this one. I think my favorite part is the streaks of light coming in from the right side, and illuminating only the trees in the center. If I think about it too hard it makes me wonder what enormous thing is off to the right of the frame that casts such a shadow, but the effect is certainly very pleasing to look at.

From a color and composition standpoint, I think there might be too many things fighting for my attention. The mountain in the background, the trees in the center, the lake on the bottom and the flowers in the foreground (both sides) are all at a very similar level of contrast, making it hard for my eye to figure out what it is supposed to look at. I think this could benefit by picking one or two main subjects and making the contrast stronger in those areas than in others (you could make those contrast more sharply, but my own preference would be to mute the rest of it a bit)

Hey tuerda, thank you again the the detailed critique, it always helps me to see others interpretation and opinions of my paintings. So, I did use a reference for this painting. Probably that is what helped me paint the mountain with even more detail. I get it regarding the brightness of the areas of this scene, as far as not focusing on a specific area of light, causing detraction from the subject. The origional photo was the same thought, it had much light in various areas, so I suppose I should have chosen one of two areas of concentrated light, just to address that problem you mentioned. The origional photo, didn't have light rays, I added them into my painted version, so I'm happy you like that part. I actually shared this painting project with my Facebook friends, as I was progressing... I have many fellow painters and art enthusiast friends there who where watching me share the updated photo's, as I was painting this scene. One them comment on the realism of the water, they seem very excited about the way the water, or lake turned out I notice that the camera or the settings on my camera, seems to have added additional saturation, so, If I share this one again, I need to de-saturate the colors some, being when I look at the painting, it's not nearly as saturated as the photo I shared. I'm also known for flowers, as I've said previously, when people see the flowers, they usually know who painted it! I guess, I could cut back a bit on the flowers, or put them in places that are not near the bottom or edge of the painting. But, the origional reference, did have many bright colorful flowers at the bottom, just as I painted. Anyway, thank you again for reaching out and letting me know your thoughts!! Take care and I hope you have a lovely week ahead!!! :-) Dan Seitzinger
