Description
Let's enter the building. How did it all start? In 1835 (May 5th) the first commercial railway line opened, Brussels - Malines (Mechelen). The first on the Continent. It's represented by the wooden, real size model of the 'l'Elephant' The other two where La Flèche.(the Arrow) and Le Stephenson (the Stephenson). They did it in a little less than an hour, the traject was 22km (+/- 13.75 miles). Witch was five time faster than a horse drawn carriage. They could do it in twenty minutes.
On entre le bâtiment. Comment tout cela est commencer? Le 5 Mai 1835 l'ouverture de la premiere ligne commerciale, Bruxelles - Malines. La premiere sur le continent européen. C'est représenté par une maquette en bois a l'échelle 1:1 de 'l'Elephant' une des trois locomotives. Les autres deux était la Flèche et le Stephenson. Ils ont fait le trajet de 22 km en un peu moins d'une heure. Ce qui était cinq fois plus vitte qu'à cheval. Ils savait le faire en vingt minutes.

O, these are real, only the one that's elevated is a model. They destroyed without knowing it's significance. The first one, is one of nine build in Belgium. Small gauge.

Must have been quite thrill those first daring adventurers, to travel 5 times faster than a horse. And now look how fast we go and don't even think about it. Nice photo.
