The question of art moved to the twentieth century, following Arthur Danto, we no longer ask "what is art" but "when is there art?" the work of art poses an enigma, but also gives a plastic answer which agrees with it. Wittgenstein speaks of the myth of the inexpressible: "if there is something inexpressible, then it must be shown". This does not mean that art succeeds in describing where there is a lack of everyday language, but that it is better suited to express the vagueness of our expressions in our aesthetic judgments and assessments as a dimension of experience in general. .

Love the composition and lighting from the left. At first glance I thought the white stuff on the wall was decay (as though the wall was very old), so I was delighted to realize they were reindeer!

this illusion adds to the magic of Christmas, doesn't it? Banksy is used to working on walls with stencils.

Asking "when is there art?" and not "what is art?" is a capitulation, an acknowledgement of the near impossibility of providing a satisfactory answer to the latter question. As for the "inexpressible," I maintain that what cannot be expressed cannot be shown. I further maintain that what cannot be expressed cannot be sensibly experienced, properly understood, or fully comprehended. A likely condition, after all. We can hardly know everything. The unconscious obstructs our most diligent efforts.
