Description
I stopped, noticing just how eerily silent the forest around me stood. I’m not sure why I hadn’t noticed it before, but thick patches of fog had started to white-out the landscape. The trees appeared threatening.
There was something oddly chilling about these woods, something that made my subconscious scream and my skin tingle in anticipation.
I listened intently for the sounds usually evident when walking out in the woods—leaves rustling, small animals scurrying, birds chirping, wood creaking—but even the wind seemed to hold its breath, waiting... for what?
The only sound came from me: My loud, ragged breathing and my jackhammering heartbeat. Something was out there. Everything within me felt it, even the hairs at the back of my neck. Silent fog swirled through the trees.
I shivered. Something watched me.
