Description

The terraces of the bishopric. The equestrian statue of Joan of Arc comes from a gift from the patron J. Sanford Saltus, a Francophile American citizen. It is a replica of the one inaugurated on December 6, 1915 in New York, on Riverside Drive, near the shore of the Hudson. On this occasion, J. Sanford Saltus read a dispatch from President Wilson in which the President of the United States sees in Joan of Arc “one of these ideal figures of History […] In her, seems to have been embodied pure enthusiasm, source for all, of heroism and poetry ” Infos wikipedia

Les terrasses de l'évêché.

La statue équestre de Jeanne d'Arc provient d'un don du mécène J. Sanford Saltus, citoyen américain francophile. Il s'agit d'une réplique de celle inaugurée le 6 décembre 1915 à New York, sur Riverside Drive, près du rivage de l'Hudson.

A cette occasion, J. Sanford Saltus a lu une dépêche du président Wilson dans laquelle le président des États-Unis voit en Jeanne d'Arc «une de ces figures idéales de l'histoire […] En elle, semble s'être incarné un pur enthousiasme, source pour tous, de l'héroïsme et de la poésie »

Love the statue and the history behind. Seen lately the full story of Jeanne d'Arc. A story to show how many people were killed by the church, because of their believe and ended on the fire.
