Yves, you are a poet with the brush...this is another of your exquisite, poetic, delicate, stylish and very articulate portraits of the human form. This woman's gesture is both inviting and mysterious, she is very private yet inviting: You've turned her to our right, but her head turns to our left, she gazes at us from the side, she covers herself with her arms (as if she were very self-conscious), and her arms are covered in those long gloves. It's all a delicate dance of revealing and concealing....Her body moves, from top to bottom, in a delicate set of movements that give us the best of fashion painting, and which have a very delicate poetry.
Her hair is majestic, and you painted "curtains" coming down from the top lines of her hair---those light gray vertical lines you've painted in the open spaces of her hair. Beautiful! Her upper torso is "open"---it receives the color of the paper like it would receive sunlight...And you contrast that with your deep blacks (in her dress). Those two hues (the cream-hue of the paper, and the black of her dress) are "mediated" by the beautiful warm grays of her gloves. A little symphony....And you also add grays to the bottom of her dress---a beautiful flourish. Also, I love the way you dissolve her lower body in paint-dabs. I love the cream color of the paper (perhaps you painted it that way...the paper gets darker as we move downwards). And you painted small faint dots of gray along the back of her dress...beautiful once more.
This is masterful, Yves. You are an artist at his peak. Fashion illustration is a lost art today; and I don't know if it will ever come back. But you have captured the very best of it, and you've expressed nuanced, inward and touching emotion though it. You do wonderful work, Yves, and it's a joy to see you back here.
(***You may know these archives, but if you don't, they may interest you. The New York Public Library has a large collection of 1930s and 1940s fashion illustrations. Here are 2 links for 2 of their archives: These are from the Andre Studios, an average fashion-illustration firm. They're not exceptional (your work is far more beautiful)l, but they're 'archetypal'. The first link is the 'front page' for their offerings. The second link is a typical catalog page. If you're interested, click on any image: When you get to the image, go to the right of the page, and click on the plus sign ("+"): That will give you a full size picture. These are classic examples of mainstream fashion illustration in the 30s and 40s.) (They made women so thin, I'm amazed any human could survive at those weights! Your art transcends these drawings style by huge leaps, Yves, but these old illustrations are your 'poorer cousins'...so if you haven't seen them, you might get a smile from glancing at them...

Ton art, comme les grands crus bourgeois, prend des volumes et des parfums de plus en plus envoûtants avec le temps qui passe ! Que dire de plus, c'est simplement SUPERBE, Yves !
