(One of the reasons it takes me time to do these comments is the editing: If you read my 'first drafts'---what I write when I initially comment on your pieces---you'd need a team of Egyptologists or Anthropologists to decipher what the hell I wrote. Even I don't do a good job deciphering what I wrote...So I edit---better: 'clarify'---until what I wanted to say is one with what I actually said. That's why it can take me 30 minutes for one comment. I've been here an hour, and I've only left 2 comments (slow!) (I hope you don't have any pressing appointments!) I'll comment on this, then come back for more later this week.) (Now that I've taken up half a page with an 'explanation', that is...if you have objections to my explanations, send a note, with an SASE---remember that term?---and you'll get a refund and 3 free bottles of aloe vera. Or something...)

Moving from the intense pulsing irises and turtles, we now take a steep left and walk into a very tranquil, beautifully hued animal painting. The background is washes---it feels like rubbed pastels---which bubble up, but which are very soft and dreamlike. Which makes my point about your range as an artist....The sun---huge and beautiful---is covered by that beautiful Serengeti mist. And the trees are too. The hues---as you suggest, they're indigenous to the region. But they're also hues from inside of you: Hard to name, but very powerful hues, they resonate with me immediately. (Really---you've got dark burnt oranges mixed with deep burnt browns and sepias, which you mix with beautiful slate grays, tints of blue, and so on. Even some purples. Am I close here? I gotta take out my dictionary to find names for your hues...you should give a 'program' to help us out...) Point is, they're very much 'soul' colors. And the trees are also washed-through with those mists. Instead of your pulsing radiating backgrounds, you have soft dreamlike backgrounds in paintings like this. Very inviting to deep places inside us.

The foreground has a line of beautiful photographic detail: The stalks are beautiful, and their clean etched lines give real contrast to the beautiful 'rubbed pastel' feel of your background. (You have some glorious glowing peach-orange-pink grasses on the left side of the lions. See what I'm talking about? These 'surprise additions' of yours always make me jump out of my chair.) So you have a real distinction between the background, and the highly articulate/detailed foreground.

And then there are the lions. Painted in your mix of intense detail and soft presence, the lion mother and child are very articulate (visually) while also very gentle. That's not easy to do, and you do it over and over in your animal portraits. We do see the individual hairs, and the waves (ie, the mother's right side, where you articulate how animal hairs flow in 'waves'). And you have your usual mix of hues, subtly woven with the lions' whites and off-whites. The cub is purer white of course---typical of young animals---with great blue eyes. The overall feeling of these 2 lions (lioness and cub) is one of gentle presence, peace-giving, and loving---which is what a mother and child is...they're very detailed but we feel them as a quiet peace-giving presence. And the background hues set-off the lions beautifully: There's no 'vying' between the background and foreground----it's a peaceful world. And I love the grasses in front of the lions---that line of beautiful detail, with a little 'mound' of flesh-pink-brown grasses in front of them. (Those act as a bottom 'frame' for your piece.) This has a feeling of perfect balance and grace. Another beautiful animal portrait from you, Carol.

Mark, I do understand and appreciate the 'writer' in you. As you understand the 'hues that are inside of me'. And for a writer the fun part is in the spontaneous surge of words ... and the real writing and work is always in the editing. In the re-visioning. When I read your words, I always go back and see my art in new ways ... often see the meaning that is there that I didn't see before. Or see it in a deeper way. There is a softness, a maternal love-hue in the relationship between a mother and child, and that is what I tried to capture in this work. The soft warmth and rose-coloreed world of loving, and being loved and protected. I remember this as a child, and perhaps cherish it more because I lost my mother at a young age. I also liked exploring the contrast of the often violent and harsh world of Africa to the gentle, nurturing world of mothering, and being mothered and protected from all the outside dangers. It is a special momentary world of love and protection that we get to experience if we are lucky. What I was trying to capture in this work is what you wrote so eloquently ... "The overall feeling of these 2 lions (lioness and cub) is one of gentle presence, peace-giving, and loving.". Thanks Mark, for your vision and your re-vision.

I do accept as true with all the ideas you’ve introduced on your post. They’re very convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are very quick for beginners. May you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thank you for the post. kèo nhà cái hôm nay
