Description

Since I have been moving all development and rendering to Blender and Unreal Engine, transferring the materials from Daz Studio (Iray) to one of these two engines was kinda inevitable. I had created a base Daz to Eevee material a couple of weeks ago, from mostly a trial and error based Principled BSDF shader that started out simple, then became overly, truly, inexplicably complicated, then cut down to become simple again, rinse repeat. I continued from where I had stopped today and what you see over here is the current build (SWT Daz to Eevee v0.7 shader for G8F, word salad of a title) which uses only the generic Genesis 8 Female textures that you get with the base DS software as a freebie along with one additional map: one of my original thickness maps for SSS. This shader is still far from perfect, I need to add nodes to facilitate makeup overlays, the eyebrows need to be fixed, the 4 to 5 eye materials are not complete and before I call it a job well done I will need to add some parallel nodes for mixing the textures from multiple figures of the same UV (G8F / G3F) up. But I'm getting there. What really (no BS) surprised the hell out of me is that this render took a little less than 5 seconds to finish. I am new to Eevee (having only worked in earnest with Blender what seems ages ago) so these render speeds...are something that I find truly insane. I expect the render times to slow down when I start layering the hair, clothing, prop and other models...but by what margin will be the 27,000 dollar question. And while it may not be as "accurate" as anything Vray, Iray or any other PBRs output, for such turnaround timings I'm willing to seriously drop everything else for getting my projects rendered in the semi-accurate Eevee alone. For reference, the system this was rendered on uses Ryzen 3900x, RTX 2080, GTX 1070 Ti and 32 GB Ram (with just average timings). This is a 5 second test portrait shot off of a non HEDT. Insane. --- And when I am done with this material (no ETA on completion) I fully expect to share it with others in one way or the other. Because up until a few weeks ago I too was typing in "Daz Blender Skin", "Daz Eevee Skin" and the fan favorite "Genesis 8 Female Blender" into a google search bar. Did not find many (if any) results that I was happy with. So this will be my contribution to anyone else thinking about making the switch the Blender :)
