Description

For the Babylonians, the constellation Aquarius represented Ea, god of water, knowledge and creation, who is commonly depicted holding an overflowing vase. In ancient Egypt, it was associated with the annual flood of the Nile. For the Hindus it is kumbha " the water-pitcher". In the western tradition, Aquarius is sometimes associated with Deucalion son of Prometheus who built a ship to survive an imminent flood. It is also sometimes identified with the beautiful Ganymede who was taken (not voluntarily) to Mount Olympus by Zeus to act as cup-carrier to the gods. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus, and associated with amethyst, orchids and the colour blue.
