Description

This is a still life scene, which always give you a feeling of calme and silence (==> so the title). That's not a perfect scene, I know, but the rendering time was 40h, I will not have the courage to do it again ;=) If you have any idea explaining why these objects are too net, they don't seem really integrated in the scene, I'm interested to have your opinion. Other opinions also accepted ;=) Yves

Hi Yves, nice composition, already. :) Regarding object integration, there are several things you could try out. I think the main "problem" is the high contrast in colours and highlights between the background and the objects themselves. The shadows help a lot, but adapting the materials and colours somewhat to a little more uniform colour/material scheme might work. The vase looks the most naturally "integrated" to me, of the objects in the image--mainly due to its colouring and transparency. Other things to try out: use a couple of fill-lights on the sphere's and the, hmm, bowl's? :) backside so they don't appear completely black (i.e. lessen the contrast to the background); or perhaps try out a very slight light gel on the main lightsource to give all surfaces a more similar appearance. Oh, and keep us posted. :) Have fun, -Sascha.rb

I think its a great composition, I like the way you repeat the color of the key on the sphere, and echo the hue of the bottle on the surface texture. If you want me to be hypercritical the only thing I might suggest when designing anything is to avoid even numbers. You have four objects, 3 or 5 would have been better. It is something I was taught in art class...to basically favor asymmetry as it makes a more interesting composition. But that is just being super nitpicky. Otherwise this is an excellent piece. The texture you have on the bottle is superb.

The lighting is fascinating, as always. I tried to get the unreachable and to realize something like this, but I only got a lot of separated pixels. I do not know what I'm making wrong.

That vase is great, and I love the lighting. Maybe is they were a little closer together and one or more slightly overlapping, it would "unify" the scene. Usually in a still life, things are a bit closer. Like mooncat, the odd-number thing has been drilled into me, too. I always have five birds, or seven rocks, never four or six or eight. It's a tiny thing, but it makes a difference. I think the picture is otherwise.....super. I like the little white shape...ashtray maybe? Great job on it.

I think the lighting is superb, and the table-cloth is beautifully done as well :)

I'm very glad to learn about this "odd number" of objects in a scene. I surely will do an other scene, with closer objects. This should give me more control on light in the scene. Experiment and experiment and learn and learn, that's a never ending process for us ;=)

Superbly done in any case I never knew you could render so well in Vue respect to both!!

Very nice pic, I agree with mooncat on the odd numbers. Another compositional tip that would give the picture a sense of flow would be to offset all the items slightly off center of the picture and arrange them in a matter that draws the eye from one to the next. ie: smallest to largest, horizontal to vertical, etc. The render and lighting are superb and the picture as a whole is awsome. Very well done. I really like that glass.
