Description
This image represents the fusion in a unique harmony of the musical experiences of cultures distant in space and time (jazz and classical but not only). The work had been prepared to be exhibited together with another at an exhibition in Venice (church of S. Teodoro very close to the Rialto bridge) on March 20, 2020. All postponed to we do not know when and if. Planned print on canvas measuring 90x90 cm.

Fantastic colors. You did a beautiful job of taking these instruments to create an amazing nature pic. Bryce has never looked so awesome.

First, I'm sorry this image never was displayed: I hope the original exhibition will be staged in the future...
I was trained in classical and jazz piano, so I can relate to your image in an intimate way. You have orchestral instruments here---violins, cellos, contrabasses, etc. And then you have one of the most recognizable jazz instruments: the saxophone. They're both in the same water, dancing together. I love your different colors for the saxophones---golds, a beautiful deep bronze-orange, some beautiful greens (and one dark green, with tarnished bronze tones). And I love that the saxophones are partly submerged in the water. You've often used water as a primal substance, in your art...a primal substance from which life springs. And also, you seem to use water as an 'equalizer'---something that brings everyone together, back to their common source. The water, in your art, often has a purifying quality: it brings rejuvenation to anyone that touches it.
These instruments are all dancing and bobbing in the water, like musical notes. (Hey, when you've spent years reading music manuscript, you can't get the image of notes out of your mind!) And your background reminds me a little of the Comedia of your previous image! Only, the flames, here, are of music-in-the-night...more like a Van Gogh sky than like hell. Anyone who's played jazz knows about "music-in-the-night": Late night is the time for jazz. Plus, your blazing sky is filled with more upright violins, cellos, etc. It's a reflection of the dancing instruments in your foreground.
So you've brought different cultures together in one big "soup" of music. One big casserole, one big dance festival. ("Salsa"---a style of dance and music---literally means "sauce": Your image is a huge global sauce.) I love the contrast between upper and lower colors. And the top of your image feels very much like oil paint. Brilliantly done, as always, Giuliano.

Very impressive image, I'm so sorry that you can't exhibit it like planned, but well, postponed isn't cancelled!
