Description

"...Ok, then come here, and I'll show you how many horsepower wind and thermals have." (True) Story: In the last two years I had the chance to fly in a glider a few times. 2 flights were so called trial flights, where I steered myself with an instructor behind me. These flights served to give me an idea of whether gliding could become one of my new hobbies. I did these flights in an ASK-21, a glider which is very often used for flight training because of its aerobatic capabilities and yet good-natured flight characteristics. The other flights were passenger flights, where my friend took me along. At the most recent flight it was wonderful weather (with cumulus clouds forming) and my friend said that we could easily fly 200-300 km (or even further) that day. So I named him a certain landmark (about 80 km from the airfield), which I would like to see from above. We set the target, got into the glider (a DG-1000) and towed it to 1300m. After releasing the glider we found a thermal tube and wound up to about 1800m. The rate of climb was 4-5m per second at times. So we set off on our goal. As it is so common when gliding, we had to find a thermal bubble from time to time to keep the altitude permanently. I have never felt sick in a plane before, but this passenger flight taught me something new. On about 1/3 of the distance (after almost an hour flight) my stomach started to complain and after a while of circling in the thermals it became too much for him. After a first "relief" we decided to go on. But we lost some altitude and had to crank ourselves up again. Well, and then my stomach found a second time that he really had no fun. So the second bag was filled in about half of the way to our wanted Target. Now it was clear to both of us that we would never reach our goal and we turned back to the airfield. So I had to admit to myself that the many shakes and especially the endless circling in the thermals were nothing for me. Never the less it was such a great experience when ever I could fly in a glider plane! My friend made a cool video of the 2019 Glider season. In 2020 they will stay down most of the season, because any club activities are forbidden until further because of the Corona Virus. Technical things: I found this ASK-21 as a model for Microsoft Flightsimulator 2002 and I liked it a lot. So I decided to convert this model, rework it and rig it for Daz-Studio. So I converted it to an .obj file and loaded it in hexagon to refine it and create the UV mapping. I learned from a tutorial video of Darkedge Designs (listed below) available at DAZ3D how to rig the sailplane correctly. With ERC I was able to connect the whole thing so that control inputs on the front stick resulted in corresponding movements on the back stick and the control surfaces. It was also clear to me (from my own experience) that nobody gets into a glider without an emergency parachute. Since I didn't have one available in DazStudio, I made one in Hexagon the style of Clothing Items according to another Hexagon/DS turorial video (also listed). Last but not least I learned about editing and correcting weightmaps in a rigged figure from another tutorial by Thundron Games (on YouTube). I highly recommend learning from more modeling software skills and all the secrets behind rigging models via video tutorials. It's fun, and you'll get results faster than if you try to figure it all out yourself. credits: "dForce Mod Jumpsuit Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s)" by Nikisatez @ DAZ3D "Mystical Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s)" by SWAM @ DAZ3D "ULTIMATE Grass & Meadow Worldbuilder" by ThePhilosopher @ DAZ3D VideoTutorials: "Rigging Vehicles and Mechs in Daz Studio" by Darkedge Designs @ DAZ3D "Classic Bikini (Hexagon and DAZ Studio 4 Pro Video Tutorial)" by Fugazi1968 @ DAZ3D "Daz Studio pro Tips: Fixing clothing fit by Weight Mapping" by Thundron Games (Search on youtube) As usual All pure IRAY-Render, No postwork except my Logo Thanks for the peek and for all comments and helpful tips in the past. What a great story.

Awesome glider, hopefully your model doesn’t get a angry stomach on her expedition.

Hahaha! Thanks! Actually here **She's the one ** who invites for a rough but beautiful experience.

In those trial flights I sat in the front seat (as the main pilot) and the instructor in the back seat. That's how the training is executed. In passenger flights, you sit in the back

A very interesting experience that you describe there, my respect for it. I'm afraid of flying and feel like I'm missing something in life. Maybe I can overcome myself at some point.

It has become a really nice picture and with the story it is perfect.

I wish you and your family happy Easter :- )

Flying is awesome, I can promise you! You don‘t need to start with a flight in a glider, better would be some motor plane like a Cessna or a Piper 😉 But for sure: had I the glider pilot license you for sure had an invitation for a free passenger flight 😄

Oh, I'd be there with bells on!!

I am sooooo envious, my friend! That's one of the things still unchecked on my bucket list.... I've never been airsick in my life - but then again, I usually wait until I'm back on terra firma before eating much.

Most excellent work on the sailplane and its lovely pilot! Let's go find a thermal or three...

Well, I know pilots who use to get sick even when flying alone. In one praticular case, one of them had to go down on a meadow because running out of wind. And even when being on final onto this meadow, when you have to deal with airbrakes and landing gear, he still had to operate the sickness bag ...

I think at my age gliding would scare the living crap out of me. A fine blonde and cool craft.
