Description
This is the last of the three images exhibited in Florence in 2019 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci.
The exhibition dedicated to the famous talented man took place in the historic center in a prestigious 1500 building in front of Palazzo De Medici, on the same occasion as the image published in the last weeks of the Last Supper and Mona Lisa.
The image represents the arm and hand of S. Giovanni Battista as painted by Leonardo. I did it like getting out of the water and made of water pointing towards the sky. On the stairs figures of increasingly noble metals as baptism approaches the sky from the still not pure water

That's rather alchemical actually, something Leonardo would have been somewhat familiar with.

I love that you put some of the noble metals here---the metals that don't tarnish (or oxidize): They won't be tarnished by baptism. Above all, I love that you gave us only S. Giovanni Battista's arm---that beautiful arm from Leonardo's beautiful (and mysterious) painting. Leonardo's painting is doused in shadow...but here, you have a misty, blue-purple-white light. And, as you wrote, you turned San Giovanni's arm into water---which isn't pure yet. It reaches up to the infinite, to be purified.
Around SG's arm, you placed a spiral stairwell, which makes SG's arm even more powerful, like the world is swirling around it. And the noble metals---which you brilliantly portray as humans---reach out to touch it, and maybe impart some purity to it. And you gave us another of your infinite seas in the background, with calm waters and a calm sky above...The image is very affirmative, and the colors are all dreamy and restful. It's like a sauna in purgatory, where St. John the Baptist is pointing the way to redemption. It's always a treat, Giuliano, to see you visualize our inner lives, and works of art, literature, etc. This trio---the Last Supper, Mona Lisa, and this image---is stunning. It would be wonderful to see all three together---especially in such historic settings.

I'm always at a loss to say anything about your work since it is such a complete paradigm shift from where I am oriented. Nonetheless there can be no question that it is beautiful, provocative, thoughtful art that points to new ways for us to imagine and conceptualize :-)

Wow, I take it the gold figure has been purified(refined) by fire?
