Description
The Girl from Ipanema (the song) is 58 years old... the ACTUAL girl whom Vincius de Moraes wrote the lyric about (Heloísa Pinheiro) is now 75 and still going strong!
The tune is a Jobim classic, especially as sung by the late great Joao Gilberto. Its been covered many times in English, but the English lyrics by Norman Gimbel loose all the poetry of the original (Jobim himslef never liked them), so here's a literal translation of part to give you a feel...
"Look, such a sight, so beautiful,
So filled with grace,
It's her, this girl who comes and who passes,
With a sweet swing, on her way to the sea.
Ah, if she but knew,
That when she passes by,
The world smiles,
Is filled with grace,
And becomes more beautiful,
Because of love".
Slightly less banal, I hope you'll agree! So here's a very traditional interpretation of the scene, along with a traditional version of the song, to complement the more contemporary take offered by Ute, which inspired me to do this :)

Yes, I opted for a Mediterranean vibe (Venetian is a good call; its inspired by the Venetian yacht harbour of Mali Losinj!). I wouldn't even be able to hazard a guess as to what the waterfront Cafes of Rio looked like in the 60s!
