As you proberbly learned at school the Dutch defenders at The Hague were the only ones to defeat (!) the Germans in May 1940 Many German forces were captured and sent to England .. never able to fight again in that war.. Sadly The Dutch had not many anty Air Craft Guns and were defenceless against terror bombardments... Rotterdam was wiped of the face of the Earth... and Germans said they would do the same with Utrecht, Amsterdam and last The Hague... As there was no defence against it.. the Dutch troups in 11 of the 12 provinces stopped fighting.. Only Dutch and English forces in Zeeland (old Zeeland) kept fighting.. until the capital of Zeeland (Middelburg) was also bombarded ... For the Hero's who defeated the Germans during the Batlle of The Hague this statue was made..... The germans lost many planes during the battle of The Hague (they landed on the 3 airfields and were than destroyed by Dutch soldiers on the ground..) and some elite troops.. The battle for Brittain was not succesfull because of this. In a way the victory in The Hague by the Dutch was the beginning of the end for Adolf and his mad men It was an insane move anyway.. The Dutch would never have given the Germans any trouble if they had not been attacked.. Tacticle Blunder !
