Description
In mediaeval English, an eyas (originally a nyas from the Latin nidus, for "nest") was a fledgeling falcon or hawk, taken for training by a falconer.
I have applied it here to a young harpy, as originally described in the earliest Greek accounts. Hesiod, writing around 700 b.c. describes them as fair winged maidens; its only centuries later in the Greek tradition that they became ugly and vicious, a description that has unfortunately stuck with them ever since.
...So here is my eyas on her first flight above her mountain home.
