Description

In the dark of night, she stops to admire the beautiful glowflies fluttering around her. APRIL 29, 2020 This is an idea I’ve had floating around in my head ever since I purchased those butterflies with a neon glow option. Since they will glow with both IDL and emission materials, I rendered this in Superfly and it turned out quite well. Maybe I’ve been staring at it too long today but I’m not feeling 100% on this piece yet I can’t think of anything else to do to it. I’m open to suggestions on how to improve it or opinions on if I should leave it as is. This artwork is Copyright © 2020 Lizzie Prusaczyk and Dream 9 Studios™. All Rights Reserved.

Very pretty! My only suggestion would be to maybe increase the contrast, so that dark areas are a bit darker and light a bit lighter (esp. the shadow under her left thigh). I also can't quite tell what the dark stuff hanging to her right is, but I'm guessing it's a plant? So maybe that needs more (or less) light? But I make these suggestions only b/c you asked for them. I think the render has a lovely moody quality as is!

This has such a wonderful feel of magic, Lizzie. Wonderful lighting effects here.

I agree - just a bit more contrast would add that 'pop' I think would make it jump right off the screen.

If you have Photoshop, try this..

Add a curves adjustment layer above the image. Grab the curve in the middle-ish, and pull it down slightly - you'll see the image darken. Adjust until you're happy with the dark level. Click on the layer mask - it will be white. Change it to black. Your image will go back to the way it looked before.

Next, add another curves adjustment layer on top of the previous one. Pull the curve UP until you reach a light level you like. Click on the layer mask and do the same thing as before (change it to black). Your image will return to its original look.

Now comes the fun part. Make sure your colors are set to default (black and white), Make sure you're painting with white, and with a soft brush with a low flow setting. Now - starting with the DARK curves adjustment layer, gently paint white on the layer mask. You'll see your darks getting darker as you paint on the layer mask. Do the same on the LIGHT adjustment layer. This allows you to effectively "dodge and burn" on your image with a lot more control than the actual dodge / burn tools. And it's non-destructive, so your original image isn't touched.

Hopefully this is helpful (and understandable - any questions, don't hesitate to sitemal me!)

I know that feeling! Nine times out of ten - turns out to be a fine image!
