Description

“Be at ease master dwarf. I mean no harm,” Faeryl said calmly, her empty hands out to show that she held no weapon, although she bore a bastard sword in a back scabbard only about half a foot shorter than her own five feet height. “Ha… a harmless drow” Tarl snarled, his great axe held at the ready, as he scanned the shadows. Though a stranger to Silverymoon himself, he knew enough of the city’s reputation to doubt that a drow wouldn’t dare venter here alone. “Wait my friend,” Aeron interceded, placing his hand on the dwarf’s shoulder to stay him as he stepped forward and looking closely at the silver amulet hung at her throat. He recognized the symbol it bore, the depiction of a nude drow maiden with long flowing hair dancing before a full moon with a silver sword. “You serve Eilistraee!?!” he announced more then asked. “Yes” she replied warmly. “You know of the Dark Maiden?” “I visited your Moonwood temple some years ago,” Aeron replied, enjoying her puzzlement, and smiling slyly at the memory. He knew that even this close to the sanctuary at the heart of the nearby forest, few had heard of Eilistraee, or the drow priestesses who served her. Faeryl looked at the young human with clear confusion, the Mouth of Song seldom welcomed visitors. In fact, she couldn’t remember a single one in the nine decades she’d lived there, and this human was little more than a score of year’s old by the look of him. “It’s alright my friend,” Aeron turned back to Tarl. “The priestesses of Eilistraee are enemies of evil and friend to those of good heart.” “What? Good hearted drow… what’s the world coming to?” Tarl laughed, lowering his axe, while he openly eyed the dark elf’s shapely figure. She was every bit as beautiful as the moon elf rogue that they’d encountered earlier and there was a nearly palatable sensuality about her. “I left the Mouth of Song on my first Run just days ago and the Dark Maiden led me here with the vision of a crescent moon hung over a river,” Faeryl addressed them both, while smiling coyly at Tarl’s sudden change of attitude, “to test my faith… and fulfill my destiny.” “What destiny would that be?” questioned a voice from behind them, causing all three to turn toward the dark figure emerging from the night.

Thank you for your time and attention. For those unfamiliar with the Forgotten Realms here's a quick primer for the setting specific terms that aren't clearly explained in the text;

Bastard Sword - often called a hand-and-a-half, it'sa typically four-and-half to five foot long sword that can he used either one or two handed... much like a claymore.
Drow - also called dark elves, drow are elves marked by their ink black skin, white hair and often red eyes, They are typically cruel and wholly evil, living in great subterranean cities.
Eilistraee/the Dark Maiden - a goddess worshiped almost exclusively by drow who have turned from evil who promotes good deeds and tolerance.
Run - a ritual pilgrimage undertaken by priestess of Eilistraee to places they have never gone before to spread the Dark Maiden's message.
Silverymoon - a large city in the northwestern area of Faerun (the continent of the Forgotten Realms setting) know as a center of learning and culture in what is often called the Savage North. It is built around a crescent moon shaped curve in a major river.

A most lovely Drow indeed! And another well written chapter.

Many years ago at a local Renfest, I had an opportunity to handle an accurate, fully useable replication of a claymore.... My god.... If you didn't hit your target, you'd be a week bringing it back around...

Can you just imagine a 5' 101 lb woman trying to handle that thing? I'd have preferred to arm her with something more reasonably sized, but clerics in the Forgotten Realms are honor bond to use the weapons preferred by their deity... so she got a bastard sword.
