Description
Once the gondolas were characterized by bright colors, in the 16th century noble families competed with the "most precious and most striking gondola". As this was becoming excessive, the Republic of the Serenissima was worried about this desire to show off luxury at all costs and at the end of the 16th century it imposed black as the color of all gondolas. Black was the color of elegance not of mourning.
In the annual "Historical Regatta" event, the most awaited race is that of gondolini, which as in the past are characterized by different bright colors.

oh, a beautiful melange of gondola 'fronts', super-imposed on each other in a dream-regata/regatta. It's beautiful. You've created a dream-vision of the gondolas, as if all the gondolas of the past came to the race, and raced as ghosts. You've made each "ferro di prua" (did I spell that correctly?) like a flag---as if they were flags of the nations of the world, passing in joyous regalia...and you've made each partly transparent, so we can see others behind them: a collection of beautiful apparitions. A joyous confluenza (si?)...it would be wonderful to look out a window and see these beautiful ghosts float by, one day. Also, you have a big decorated surface in the background (especially on the left): I don't know what it is, but it looks like a highly decorated surface...the lower left corner is like an ancient calendar (like the Aztec calendar), with carving and symbols. It 'whispers' through the gondolas, and stands out in deep greens (on the left). A beautiful dream-of-gondolas, with your usual transparent layers and shifting lights...beautiful.
