Description

It is said that in ancient times, before implants that in order to communicate local terrestrial distances people had to use a bulky device called a "Cellular Telephone". The device was heavy and could generally only be held in hand making manual tasks difficult and caused issues with distraction, likely due to it sheer bulk. It relied on the use of the then "advanced" method of cellular carrier wave technology, which while limited was able to transmit low grade video across the network. Yet stranger still was what these inefficient and heavy devises replaced was even more savage. They were called "Public Telephones" as the communication device was human sized and operated on a fixed set of copper wires and massive switching systems to connect humanity to other of thier kind. That and the units were far too expensive for all but the richest to own. That to operate the device one would have to insert monetary metal discs into the device, then using a unwieldy rotating face or etched numerical pegs to manually "dial" the assigned citizen number of the human one may wish to speak to. Making matters worse these citizen numbers could be changed at the whims of the single corporation that owned all the devices without informing the user or the human assigned the numerical numbers. Further, depending where the human was residing they could be assigned a set of numbers that ranged from a 10 digit code to a staggering 15 digit code. All of which had to be "Memorized" by the human assigned the number in addition to any other number of a citizen that they wished to communicate with. Thankfully the "Cell" as it would be called remedied most of those issues to the point where the metal monstrosities largely vanished. yet in some under-served population centers and worlds a few of these behemoths can still be found and surprisingly, still function despite being totally obsolete. In fact, as the tech is so primitive that on some worlds where global conflicts rendered the planet back to the pre-industial age these metal beasts were able to allow humans to communicate and thus rebuild their worlds. It is said that throughout the entire Imperium there are possibly 20 of these devices still in operation. Generally that are found in the most under privileged and impoverished areas. Believe it or not...
