Description
I don't ever use the sun and sky with iray and I don't think I will soon.
this render turned out griany so I tweaked the settings. The results were my computer crashed like four times. Back to scratch. The render turned out to dark on the figure becuase you can't add a light to sun and sky.
so here it is my quick picture that took all day!

Beautiful scene and render!!!

I've never used sun/sky in Iray either, I typically slap in an HDR because of the clouds. For grain though, you need to crank up the samples and render times, then go find a book, like War and Peace to keep you busy till it's done.

You should try to use ghost lights. But most of the time i use dome and scene.

In spite of graininess, the lighting looks very realistic and it is a delightful scene.
Just looking at the shadows I wonder if she would be better lit standing a metre and a half to her left where the sun seems to hit, the leaves might also create a nice dappled effect — just a suggestion from a non-daz user ;)

I like the backlit light and shadows look. I have this package as well, and I agree that it can have issues of graininess. My solution has been to use an hdri set to dome only and to adjust my render settings. I change my Min update samples to 5, Minimum samples to 10, Max samples to 10000, max time to 28800, rendering quality to 4, and my rendering converged ratio to 99%. I personally like the DTHDR-RuinsB-500.hdr because it is not too contrasty. You might give some of those a try and see if you like it better.

Beautiful

Would it be too obtuse of me to ask if you might have put a spotlight on the figure or would that have upset iray? Turned out quite beautifully no matter the secret ingredients! Life is always a learning process.
bucyjoe
with the dome you can use spotlights with the sun you can't
