Greetings all. After many years away I thought I would start working at it again. Today I bring you a riddle. This render has a back story in modern TV culture. For the first 3 people to guess its origin and the male characters name I will give you....wait for it...nothing of any value but I will credit you on this render as having had some fun with me.

A worthy addition to your hefty back catalog, and a welcome surprise on a dreary Tuesday afternoon. You haven't skipped a beat in your lengthy absence, my friend. May any future absences be far shorter than the previous one.
As for who your protagonist is - modern TV is not my forte once we get beyond programs like The Strain, House, Miracle Workers, and The Orville. I can't even hazard a guess.
