Description

Homer's Iliadde begins by mentioning Achilles' deadly anger, this is the feeling I wanted to describe with this image. Cantami o Diva del Pelide Achille l'ira funesta In your language there are certainly perfect translations of these first verses of Homer's work. For this reason I do not make one of my not so good here but I recommend a search to you.

Oh Giuliano, this is a crammed, packed interpretation of 'rageful Achilles', and it's magnificent. You quoted the opening line of the Iliad, (Menin aeide thea Peleiadeo Achilleos oulomenin---Sing goddess, of the deadly anger of Peleus' son, Achilleus---a line we learned over and over, as we studied this horrific and stunning epic). I assume "funesta" is the equivalent of the Greek "oulomenin"---deadly, hellish, etc. One teacher said that Homer---or whoever wrote these amazing epics---opened with that line because he-or-she wanted the world to know that all human conflict begins with anger. (There are passages in the Iliad which are as horrific as any passages I've ever read...the poet must have either seen war, or heard of war from its survivors.)

I'm really amazed by your portrait: You've made Achilleus a big ganglia of metal-sheets and glass. They're all crammed together, vying and fighting with each other. He seems oppressed by this battle of palettes (those "sheets" are artist's palettes!): They seem to be battling with each other, for space, for primacy. And they're transparent, or like pearl: They shine. And---brillante---instead of giving Achilles a 'sword', you gave him a paint-brush! Achilles is telling us: "I will paint this epic for you out of the massive battle of my own rage!" Further, he's alone on a vast battlefield---it seems lonely and desolate. Except: You gave us other 'piles': Other gangli of rage and dormant battle: They look like sleeping beasts, ready to fight when they're called to fight...And you gave one of your stormy skies, which is beautiful at the same time...

I can't think of a better image for the opening of this war-drenched epic. Achilleus seems to be packed into 'knots', and yet he's radiant and ready to fight. I've never seen a portrait of him like this. A great interpretation of those famous opening words. Terrific!

I enjoy the contrast and turbulence of light and darkness within this isolation... a well presented creation and interpretation

Turbulent sky, barren landscape and dry ground; it does look forlorn. The palettes and brush are an interesting set up and interpretation. Your imagination is fascinating. Well done!
