Description
Kolvar has always been fascinated by death and the dead. He was particularly interested in the transition from life to death. He volunteered to assist physicians so that he would be able to get close and observe dying patients. People noticed this and it didn’t make him popular. Rumors and speculation that he might have hastened some of the patients into the grave spread throughout the town. Finally there was that incident with the guards finding dozens of freshly exhumed corpses in his home.
Kolvar left town hastily that night while the villagers prepared the gallows to receive him. In truth he had not assisted any of the patients to die and he had dug up the corpses simply to study how the body worked.
This notoriety brought him to the attention of a group of Necromancers calling themselves the Circle of Crows and they tracked him down and brought him into their circle.
This allowed him to finally conduct his research in relative peace. While not exactly evil, Kolvar has little to no empathy for living beings. Truth be told he shows more concern with the treatment of the dead than the living. Many see this as a great tragedy for Kolvar is an exceptionally talented healer who could have done much good in the world. While he is adept at any number of repairs and has a mastery of wound healing, he remains completely unconcerned about his patient’s pain. He also is known to occasionally drift into some interesting bit of experimentation or vivisection of his patient if not closely watched by others.
Then, a dozen years ago, an amazing event took place. Villagers living near his tower and fearing him greatly sought to curry his favor by bringing him a young girl who had shown some talent for magic as an apprentice. Curious Kolvar accepted their “gift” and took on the young woman named Aenwyn as his apprentice. She proved to be an exceptional student and Kolvar began to suspect that she would eventually outstrip even his abilities. Sometime during this period, he began having feelings for his apprentice, almost fatherly feelings. Aenwyn is now truly the only other person that Kolvar feels any sort of connection with. As a result, he is fiercely protective of her and will wreak terrible vengeance on anyone who harms her.
For her part Aenwyn thinks of Kolvar as her real father and stubbornly refuses to see anything bad in him.
