Description
I found this old (2003) Bryce 5 render and its companion image, Night Courtyard, on a disk I was clearing out yesterday, and I thought it might be worth posting them before I got rid of them. They're a good example of what Bryce can do with very simple lighting and render settings.
This daytime image uses plain white sunlight, with shadow intensity at 90. There is also 1 white radial light under the arches to the right (intensity 5, falloff linear, visible-surface), that uses the fancy white texture on the columns as a light gel. This stops the space under the near arches being lost in deep shadow and helps to give the impression of very strong sunlight.
The image takes Bryce5 10 mins to render, then 1 hour 8 mins to AA on normal setting, but about 80% of this is time taken to render the shiny hanging lamps.
The columns in the picture were adapted from DM's Window, and the planters were from MnDProductions, but I don't think either of these are available now. The fountain was a freebie, the plants were from various sources, and the lamps are mine.

That looks amazing - I really like the way all the details on the columns are brought into focus. I've never even looked at Bryce - but it definitely was ahead of its time.
