Description

My first attempt at creating a dragon. Never attempted to create or draw or anything to do with a dragon before. Created in Zbrush After sculpting the dragon I just polypainted the model added a MadCap Skeletor base material then went over with texture alpha's then posed. No rendering done. Zbrush does not really have a actual render engine intrinsically. Learned some more things Zbrush can do watching YouTube. Still have a lot to learn. Post work Photo Shop. Thank you for looking and thank you for your comments: Credits: FlippedNormals

First “attempt” ? Wow, that is very impressive. I especially love the textures of his wings. Wonderful, wonderful!

I agree with dragongirl. This is YOUR fully created dragon from the digital dust, like a virtual god. I do not have that level of skill. You can easily become a vendor of virtual characters. I can sense that this dragon has a "will" and he is focused on his coming action. You must feel like, how Michelangelo felt in front of is completed sculpture of David. Magnificent!

Thanks Marc for your praise of my dragon it is much appreciated. Actually I know I have a lot to learn and a long way to go to get that caliber of skill to become a vender. Lot of patients and practice, practice, practice. Thx again.

ZBrush, is an effective program, it has touches with deep details on the model, but it is a helper program, not suitable for rendering and modeling, 3dsmax is the best.. Very nicely done, especially the fires!

Thanks kharnes. I agree that Zbrush is a helper program and can be used for creating from scratch or fine tuning or adding detail. I read that the Photo realistic Lion King movie characters were created in Maya then imported into Zbrush for the added sculpted realistic detail before exported into another program for animation. Don't know were the textures were added probably in Substance Painter or some such program. I know I can and have imported V4 from Poser into Zbrush and can edit sculpt detail or completely change her there. I can even create clothing for her in Zbrush. I would have to polypaint and alpha texture her in Zbrush since I do not have Substance Painter then export the textures and model if I wanted to import them back into Poser again. Probably would not look very good in Poser though.

Wow!! Talk about epic... This is fantastic work, my friend! This looks like it could easily be Smaug from 'The Hobbit' books and movies. First attempt? Amazing!

Thanks Rod for your comment on my work. Ha Ha not quite Smaug, but thanks. The drawing tablet does help and I hope to improve with more practice.

He's a fantastic dragon. His wings are great and I like his coloring, especially the knees, chest and face.

Nice creation! I have zBrush, but I've never really cracked into it, it's got a rather steep learning curve.

Yep it does have a lot to learn. There are a lot tutorials on YouTube and so many different ways to create. I am in awe with the Masters of that software. Some extremely impressive and talented people. I hope to be half as good someday.

Thanks for your comment. I will be posting my newest Zbrush T-Rex creation and Robot T-Rex today if you want to check them out.
