Description

My wife and I have made our first attempt at raising Monarch Butterfly's. This was the first one that was brought from egg through caterpillar stage. It was just drying its wings when photographed and posed very nicely. We released it into a field soon after, where we believed it would have sufficient flowers to eat nectar from. Once in flight it was amazing how swiftly it flew and how quickly it was gone from sight. We found out that Monarchs don't bother to say goodbye when they leave, only leaving you with the after image of their beauty and of course a photo if you happen to take them. Somehow this image managed to find its way onto the birthday card I made for my now 14 year old granddaughter, who, as in the case with all teenagers is managing to spread her wings. We don't know in which direct the butterfly is flying, we are buoyed with the belief that it knows the right direction.
