Blackjack Holloway spent ten years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. While he was there he met an angel named Eightball who enlisted him in the fight against black magic. After his innocence was proven he took a gig as truck driver, roaming the American Southwest in search of evil. Doctor Zoe Carmichael came from a rich family that didn't care much about her. A workaholic with no relationships, she self-medicated with bad prescriptions until her downward spiral led her to work in an unlicensed clinic where organs were harvested and unauthorized surgeries were performed. Eightball sent Blackjack to rescue her and she became his sidekick. I've had these characters in my mind for eight years or so, and this picture is special because it's the first time I've depicted characters from a story that started out that way. I have other characters set in stranger fantasy worlds, but these feel the most vital, like they're going to lead the way for the rest of my characters into complete stories.
