Description
Main building, the fort was build end nineteenth century in the middle of technological revolution. Originally build in masonry. After completion there where new artillery pieces that would make short work of it. So they poured concrete over the four storey building. The walls are 3m thick and the roof five, if i recall correctly. Later there was electricity, lets put it in the fort. So they had to pierce the concrete walls to get the eight Diesel engines and fuel tanks in the building. If you are lucky they will start up one of those massive mono-cilinder 42 liters engines. Fuel and foodstuff was enough for three months combat. The fort had two combat blocks with a battery of five 10cm (4inch) guns (ten in total) and an unique L-shaped gun battery the only one that can be visited. The strait battery was accidentally destroyed in 1944 by american troops. Before i forget it's a German fort in France, Alsace, Loraine the war of 1870?
