Description

Here we are on the roof of the L-shaped gun battery. The guns in the turrets are french. The original German guns did not protrude out of the turrets. Last time i visited the fort they where restoring one of the turret to the original spec they showed us the German gun. By the way, the fort never fired in anger.

Yes, all forts where build as a deterrent. Some never got in the fight and others where in the thick of it. Fort Loncin took a 420mm shell in her maim magasine and exploded. When build they never thought that such guns would be mobile.
