Description
Ah ha! Now we know why the Winter Ceazun doesn’t join her sisters for afternoon tea: she's at the beach!
Rendered in July 2020 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 4400 × 2475 pixels, using direct lighting (an infinite sun and an IBL light*). View full size on my blog.
*BTW, the term IBL light isn’t redundant b/c "image based lighting" is an approach to lighting that can be accomplished either by the newer method of an HDRI on an enviro-sphere and with indirect lighting enabled OR by the older method of a special kind of Poser light that uses an a JPG or HDR image to simulate the effect of the first method (less accurate, but much faster). Both approaches are "image based lighting," but only the latter makes use of an IBL light.

What a cute lady. The setting and POV really add to the fun. A very nice job.

Wonderful details. Love the book! I find that using IBL is not only faster, it provides more artistic control. Because of fast render times you can use trial and error to get an ideal balance between IBL and infinite settings including shadow value. Our goal as artists is to create the illusion of realism in the context of the image at hand. What is realism anyway? What a camera records or what the mind perceives which are usually entirely different!

Thanks for the comment! And good point about the benefit of being able to do more test renders! For every scene I end up doing a "final render" of, I've done at least 15-20 test renders (at quarter size) to get various aspects the way I want them, and I'd never have the patience for that if the test renders weren't so fast! "Realism" has never been my goal as an artist but rather a kind of stylized, slightly toony, slightly fantasy, and slightly painterly view of things. So I enjoy making use of the ways that Firefly is NOT "physically accurate," b/c it's "stylistically accurate" for what I have in mind :-)

Mother Westwind is taking some time out to come up with new stories? Beautiful image and fine render! Most delightful viewing!

Looks like she is having a wonderful day

Very pretty - I see like me, she's turning blue from the cold :-)

Even her lips turned blue! ;-) I do worry about that snowflake on her head piece, though. But I think she must've put some sunscreen on it, as it hasn't started to melt yet! Thanks for the comment :-)

Sister Winter is doing her best to acclimate to this highly uncomfortable season!! She has to pretend the dunes are snow drifts and pad her chair with ice to properly enjoy the day! Historically, it only takes her 90 days to come to grips with the season!
Super image!

Excellent render and cool looking beach landscape. Looks like a great day at the beach.

Thanks for the comment! I was worried that the beach set I used might be a bit too "realistic" in contrast to the stylized looks of Fehn, but I didn't have a more stylized beach available and didn't want to make one. So I'm glad it seems to have worked out OK!
