Description

Humans have been collecting honey from wild bees from at least 10,000 years ago. Beekeeping in pottery vessels began about 9,000 years ago in North Africa. Domestication of bees is shown in Egyptian art from around 4,500 years ago. Simple hives and smoke were used and honey was stored in jars, some of which were found in the tombs of pharaohs such as Tutankhamun. It wasn't until the 18th century that European understanding of the colonies and biology of bees allowed the construction of the movable comb hive so that honey could be harvested without destroying the entire colony. Rendered in Iray without postwork. Models include: Wildgrass & Nordic Woodland by ShaaraMuse3D; Dawn by Hivewire3D/CWRW, Nature's Wonders Bee, NW Beekeeping, NW Bee Swarms and Nests and SBRM Flock Formations by me.

Very interesting. I did not realize that actual bee keeping was that old. I assumed they just gathered it from wild bees for ages. I guess they did, but much longer ago than I realized. Nice image.

I enjoyed reading your historical narrative, and admire your sense of creating this picturesque and gorgeous countryside scene. More and more people in French big cities are now keeping their beehives on the rooftops of high Towers, and it's possible now to eat honey made in Paris that is as good and pure as that from the countryside. 😎👍

Brilliant awesome render, very realistic, superb composition. Our most reliable friends for millenia, the bees are a true living miracle. It would be nice if we would help them thrive in a healthy environment, benefits will return by billion times more, to us all.
