Description

The Castle Giant sets out to avenge his brother, whom he (mistakenly) believes was captured and converted into a dwelling for the two-legged ants. The ants, er, I mean the knights, plead with him to see reason, but I fear it might not go well for them. Rendered in August 2020 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 4000 × 2250 pixels, using direct lighting (one infinite light sun and an IBL light) with Depth Cue atmosphere enabled. Postwork in Photoshop. View full size on my blog. ==CREDITS== SCENE: Castle Grounds by Jack Tomalin; Castle Creator by Faveral; TerraDome2; Tall Chestnut trees by whitemagus. CHARACTER: CastleGiants figure by Summoner; K4* wearing Armor by P3DA. (*I used K4 b/c when else was I going to have a need for this freebie set of kid’s armor?!)

I really prefer this version. Comparing this to the illustration version makes the point how much we rely on shading to determine shape. With shading we easily make out the cylindrical form of the walking tower so legs look like legs. Useful to recall that 2D images of 3D worlds throw away depth information and we have to exaggerate other cues to put it back. Illustration works best for scenes that are essentially flat or can be viewed as am arrangement of cut-outs.

It's probably a sign of just how out of touch I am with various segments of the population that I wasn't really sure what a "Transformer" was until folks started mentioning that with regard to this CastleGiants figure! Then I Googled it :-)

I love castles (as my Runtime will attest!), so how could I resist when I saw this CastleGiants creature from the master of weird creatures, Summoner?! And of course my first thought, after I got him, was how might he respond to an actual castle :-) Thanks for your comments!
