As a young girl, Chen Lu's father had been caught by the Mandarin's henchmen to become a forced labourer at the Great Wall. Chen Lu and her mother had never seen him again. When her mother had died of starvation an old Shaolin monk had found her on his travel. He had taken care of the girl and raised her. As the Shaolin's temple didn't accept female pupils inside its walls the monk had travelled with the girl through the whole country, teaching her everything he knew. He had also taught her the ways of martial arts so she could defend herself against the many threats all around the country. Chen Lu had proven to be an adept pupil and very talented fighter. Although, even after all those years she had never forgotten what had happened to her father. One day, when a young man in ragged clothes appeared, fleeing from the forced labour at the Great Wall, she had brought him to their camp inside the old ruins of an abandonend fortress to hide him from his chasers. That night a group of the Mandarin's soldiers detected the campfire inside the ruins. They were looking for the fugitive and easily subdued the exhausted slave labourer and killed the old monk when they found them. Chen Lu had been fetching water from a nearby ditch when she heard the sounds of the attack. Quickly she sneaked back into the ruins and took out the first two soldiers with a fierce surprise attack. Although unarmed she didn't hesitate for a second to challenge the remaining swordsmen in a fight to the death.
