Description
Now again something completely different.
In the beginning of WWII the german Kriegsmarine had a extremely powerful and dangerous weapon with their Submarines. They could hunt down every merchant ship and sink it. There are reports of Submarines just appearing in a convoy on the bright day and picking ships at will and destroy them without any fear of getting in troubles. It was like a game with lame opponents. But then the allied escorted the convoys with destroyers and radar and depth charges equipped planes appeared and the game changed rapidly. The hunter became the hunted.
Yesterday, I watched the superb movie "Das Boot" again, which describes perfectly the time when it changed and the Submarine crew feared for their life. It shows the atmosphere in that narrow Submarine and you can feel the fear of the men being in this diving coffin hearing and feeling the depth charges detonating nearby and they never know if the next is close enough to break the ship apart. A very good movie with a tragic end. Funny fact: One of the leading characters in this movie (Lt. Werner) is played by the well known German musician and songwriter Herbert Grönemeyer.
After this movie I felt inspired to make a render with Bazzes phantastic and detailed U99 which was sold here, then later appeared on his Webpage (colacola.se) as free download in Poser format. Though they didn't get hunted by Planes in the movie, this gave me a perfect opportunity to use Cybertenkos awesome Short Sunderland, which amongst other planes (like the PBY Catalina, de Havilland DH98 Mosquito, Consolidated Liberator, Handley Page Halifax and others) was used for Submarine hunting.
For the crew i had to improvise, because I lack proper clothing of the German Kriegsmarine. So I had to take Tannenbaums exquisite "Panzer crew" uniform. So this isn't quite accurate (sorry) ;-)

Hope you like it. Zooming into the Picture is very recommended (the original is 6000 pixel wide).
Pure Iray Render with a wee bit post work on the bottom of the picture, because the resolution of the Textures was to a bit low, so there where some digital artifacts (Big Pixels) I had to cover up a little.

Very cool! I keep feeling tempted to buy Panzer Crew. Only, I wonder how well it would work if I converted it up to a G8M.
I've got a few things that I load of gen4 characters for, but... Hair meshes alone make it worthwhile to see what you can get working on a G8.

Very realistic and fantastic work on this historic scene that played out many times.
It's hard to think of anything more terrifying than being stuck inside one of those claustrophobic metal tubes with depth charges going of all around you. Brrrr........

love it, Das Boot left a lasting impression on me, it was a film that was so different at the time, Very few films could capture the intensity and feeling of being there like that one.

Amazing!!! 🌺 Your graphic could be a tribute to my father who was in the submarine fleet (in Larochelle) during the 2nd world war. Before the war he was in the merchant Navy (Wilhelmshaven) and after the war started he sailed on the Scharnhorst. Last assignment with Rommel calls Cairo, then 2 years as a prisoner of war in the USA (as a cotton picker in South Carolina) and came back well-fed to Germany in 1945.

Wow, Ute! What a Story of your Dad! I’m glad he survived the war and hadn‘t to share the fate of so many soldiers (on both sides), who mostly lost their life in a unnecessary war! This reminds me of the phantastic wok and tribute of Pizzaundbier here in the Galleries. Though not German my self, I think that there are a lot of soldiers in the Nazi time, that where forced into that war and never ever would have chosen to do so by them self and nowadays are falsely accused of having been Nazis them self.
So please, Ute, understand my render as a kind of Tribute to your Dad (and all Sailors (who where mainly sons, husbands, fathers and brothers to somebody) who lost their life in the War!
BTW: I remember, as a Boy I once build a plastic kit of the Scharnhorst.

This is a very good tribute and background story, Alexander. I had been to two ships, the USS Cape Cod and USS Frank Cable. A great reason to see all these beautiful parts of the world during our WESPAC tours. Six months out of the main land but it's all great experiences!
