Greeting all, Here's a Halloween Spook-tober render for you LWP !!! You will probably recognize this background. Oh yeah, you brought it to us in your LWP Hallow Backs offering. I am also going to use your latest LWP Zombie Twilight Backgrounds a lot this Halloween season and far past that.
This one came about because of a conversation DBWALTON and I were having on using .jpg's as backgrounds. While the subject of .jpg backgrounds dates back to probably Poser 1 days, the techniques have greatly improved. DAZ and POSER ground shadow casting allows for character and ground shadows to be cast as a transparent layer. The opportunity to use simple high quality ,jpgs is now very viable. For those who use Post Production tools, most of those tools also have Hue and Saturation layer adjustment. So it becomes possible to take a DAZ Sun-Sky layer or Poser character layer and tint it to match the .jpg background. All in all, I find the technique easy and fun to fiddle with.

Wow, Dag, this is great...as we said lately, it's probably easier to use a HDRI instead of a jpeg image. It's possible to find on the Net .psd images with different layers, sun, shadows, etc.

The real advantage to HDRI for me is the 360° rotation. You can get many a nice surprise in the scene set up. The added advantage is low render and scene overhead.
Advantage to using hard sets is the fabulous shadow casting you can achieve. In many cases that is well worth the extra scene and render overhead you incur.

How were the render times doing it this way?

Render times are super quick. Like less than 5 minutes. To be honest the real overhead comes in post production, doing tint matching.
But I enjoy playing in post production so that’s not a problem for me. That’s where a lot of magic happens.
