Kuruลก; Anshan, 590 a.C.

Cyrus II of Persia, known as Cyrus the Great (in ancient Persian KUURUU SHA, transl. Kuruลก; Anshan, 590 BC - Iassarte, 530 BC), was a Persian emperor and descendant of Cyrus I of Persia, a member of that lineage of the Theispids which for some time had controlled Perside.
Ciro succeeded his father Cambyses I, freed the Persians from the dominion of the Medes and was the natural heir of the great Middle Eastern monarchies. However, his ancestry from Achemene is not entirely certain: Darius, according to Winckler, related to Cyrus the Great, during his reign would have commanded to falsify all the inscriptions of Pasargadae to establish his link with the founder of the Achaemenid dynasty. [2] Cyrus II unified the various Iranian tribes under his reign, conquered Babylon in 539 BC. without a fight, but with a clever propaganda policy; in fact, he took advantage of the particular political strategy of the Babylonian sovereign, Nabonidus, who preferred that of the god of the moon Sin to the cult of the god Marduk (which is not seen by the people). Cyrus II thought of proclaiming himself son of Marduk, so he had the Mesopotamian ruler expelled from the people and was accepted as savior. In 538 BC he also issued an edict that allowed the Jews not only to return to their homeland, but to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. In this way the sovereign also obtained control of the Phoenician-Palestinian area.
He also conquered some regions on the northeastern borders of Persia, ensured control of Syria and the Phoenician cities, extending the borders of his kingdom, which he maintained intact through a prudent policy, founded on giving freedom to the subjugated peoples and respecting their customs.
He died in 530 BC. fighting against the Scythians massagetes led by Queen Tomiri [3] and was buried in his now famous tomb in Pasargadae (not far from Persepolis); his successor was his son Cambyses II.
Ciro II is remembered as a great military commander, as an enlightened ruler, a lover of art and culture, he implemented a libertarian policy, made up of local autonomies, but which was doomed, in a short time, to failure.
