Good morning my dear Friends in the States, I wish you all a Peaceful Voting Day!!! We are prisoners of ourselves. Some of us unknowingly lock ourselves away and paint our faces with smiles in hope that no one will notice the pain in our eyes. Barriers are built and destroyed over and over again. We tell ourselves over and over again that it won't happen again. We tell ourselves that they aren't like the rest. But every time, just like the rest who had broken us, we let the next pick at the neat little threads we'd used to sew ourselves back together. We let people tear open our hearts and bare our souls. As they stand there laughing in our faces, we just smile. We have to smile. If we allow ourselves to feel again... if we allow ourselves to acknowledge the fact that this may be the point of no return, we might just crumble. How far have we gone? How far have we been broken passed repair? How long and how far will we let them break us? On the outside we smile. We laugh with them so it doesn't hurt so much. We pretend and play along until we are alone. Once the doors close, the smile fades and all the seams that kept us together tear until our hearts are bleeding out. On the inside, as we smile every day, we hear the tiny gasps and whimpers of our souls begging for love and affection. So we tell ourselves, one more time. One more time I'll fall in love again. One more time I'll bare my heart and soul. Yet, we know that this "one more time" will turn into a thousand "one more times" because all we want is love. We starve for it. We starve for it as much as we need air. They starved us of it for so long that we become desperate for it. It's a hunger we can never seem to quench. The longer we starve, the more broken we become when another person comes and tears another seam into our hearts. Do you know what our greatest fear is? It isn't love, dear. You'd think that wouldn't you? Love should be our biggest fear. No, it's being alone... it's being rejected. We fall in love so easily and so frequently in hopes someone will some day do the same in return. But then when one person after another chips at those seams, we begin to realize that we can't imagine a life alone or full of rejection. We want affection, whether emotional or physical, we starve for it. We smile and pretend. We laugh with tears in our eyes in hopes no one will see the pain. It becomes hard to trust, but we find ourselves so willing to trust again naively because we can't help but once again search for that breath of fresh air. And just when we think we've finally found the fresh breath of air we'd been starved of most of our lives, we find out it's toxic and now we're dying once again.
