Description

Well, here is a continuation of a little crazy story I started in the Jewels picture. "Another night in Terragenland had passed. I was getting really tired of those long rendertimes when I arrived at this strange place. It had taken me more than 25 hours to get here, probably because I tried a high resolution render this time. Here the sun was shining and the grass was green .. the green RGB texture could have been better, but it was nice and soft to walk on, the rest seemed to be standard Terragen texturing. On a flat rock near by someone had placed a large postwork crystal ball, but there were nobody in sight in this TF2 generated landscape. In the distance I could see the tall mountains, looking almost like pillars, the result of a heavily eroded ter-file. I decided to leave the crystal ball not quite sure if it was a palantir or not .. got the mouse in my hand and continued my journey." Comments are welcome :-)

Weird landscape, Lars. How'd you do this additional crystal ball? You have always such new and innovative ideas. One look in this ball will promise great render future for you, I think! ;-)) Reminds a bit on works of Magritte.

again an excellent idea :) terrain, rock surface and sky are excellent too, just the green layer I don't like (I think this green is too strong, but that's just my opinion!) Oh and I forget to say : excellent postwork :)

Excelent work xlars! The Palantir really adds something special to your exelent picture and hereby making it even better! I really like the magic feeling of it. It almost looks as if the Palantur smiles to me :-)

Yup, this is excellent stuff! I like the ongoing story of Terragenland, too. The terrain is superb, especially that bit in the distance.

Original idea...image and a detailed postwork too ;-). The distant rock grab on the mystic of the crystal ball in the foreground --> nice concept. The distant spires are looking real and unreal together. Wanna see the journey of your Terragen-mouse going on ;-)

The terrain seems too pointy and the surface needs some help. Cool postwork though.

First I want to thank you all for your wonderful comments to this picture :-)

fractalneil: ha ha .. so it is yours is it?
christianfly: GGG then I am glad ;-) I do not know bryce but happy to hear it (i think). Btw. I modelled the crystal ball in 3ds max.
hillrunner: Oh, this is big words especially from one who knows modern art as you do!
Toots: So glad you like it and the postwork!
1pearl: Super and klasse .. then I'm happy :-)
LutzB: Yes it is a weird landscape indeed G (made with TF2) .. You ask about the crystal ball. Well I took my Terragen render and used it in 3ds max as surface on a plane. Placed it as background .. (just like in a theater play :-). Then modeled the ball, with brazil glass surface and rendered. Finally used the rendered ball as postwork and fixed the shadow ;-) Oh, what you can see in this ball grandmaster LutzB makes me so happy ;-)
DrOGaN: You really like the terrain? I'm very glad to hear it.
nanus: ha ha ... an animated ball in a future rendring, I did not plan to but what an idea. Actually I did have a fully rendered snowlandscape of this ready but could not get it tool look right inside the crystal ball.. animation? then I guess it should have snowed inside the ball also :-D
prutzworks: Wow you also like the terrain this is good news to me. I was not satisfied because I had to do an extra softening to remove some blocky edges :-)
SophiaDeer: I am glad that you get the excact intended feeling here. I actually thought of naming it "Magic ..." something :-)
Golog: You are very kind and it pleases me to hear that you like those parts of the picture. I also agree on the green layer (as mentioned in my little story above, that part is a RGB texture and not very good result I must admit. The green is too bright green and not really intergrated in the rest). Rest of the texture could also be improved I think. Glad to hear you also like my postwork :-)
ChatAustin: Wonderful association and I'm honored and glad that you say so even though I think that every persons render in Terraland somehow pushes some bounders, and shows what has never been seen before.
XR666: Glad you say this. So do I ;-)
eponce: Yes, strange Terrain, but I am also a bit strange ;-). I'm glad you mention the detail of the sphere and I really appreciate that you call it "Another Xlars! Idea!" :-D
HHB: ha ha .. a smiling Palantir, it must have been some other thing you saw in there .. maybe some dark power trying to lure you? Glad you feel the magic :-)
Margit1: Very sweet comment from you Margit1 (no I'm not always original but try ;-)
SoundChaser: Hey, you are the first here to comment on the story :-D I thought I would leave it out, but glad you like and mentioned it. Also very pleased about such nice comments on the terrain coming from you :-)
Pelican: I really enjoy and appreciate hearing what you see in this picture, and that you find the idea/concept original. Also very happy about your little reference to my story above - it will continue ;-)
KiDAcE: Nice to have some constructive feedback. Yes the terrain is pointy on the far mountains but that is on purpose (not suppose to be a realistic image ;-) Yes I must admit that the surface mapping is not good (as i wrote in my little text and as answer to Golog above. When I get better at texturing I might just do a revised version of this picture. Glad you like the postwork!
chrisyt: Thank you so much chrisyt!
