Description

Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? Based on one of my favorite passages in the New Testament, this is a digital painting depicting Jesus and the Twelve at Cæsarea Philippi. This passage meant a lot to me so I went to Israel to see the place. Then, the scripture made sense. This place is where the Greeks and Romans and others would come to compare their gods. A cave there was where they would throw sacrifices and was always burning. It was know as the Gates of Hell. The cliff in the background had small niches with statues to the various gods. The biggest one, to the god Pan. Jesus bringing the Twelve to this location was an object lesson. In the background, people arguing and debating about various false gods. Here's the scripture... Matthew 16:13-17 When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say aye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

It's a good lesson. This is one I memorized. (Memorizing scriptures is one of my hobbies, if you will. Some people memorize poetry, I memorize scriptures.)

Thank you. Israel is full of history. I enjoy seeing where these biblical stories take place. Being a visual person, it makes the stories come alive.
