Description
All the violence, especially having to kill, disturbs Shelby greatly but she has to force herself to keep going if she wants to survive and complete her quest.
Date Finalized: November 26, 2020
Software Tools: Poser 12, Photoshop CC
This is a promotional artwork from my in-the-works graphic novel with the working title the Shelby Bly Project. This is considered a non-spoiler artwork (I call “spoilers” anything that hints at what takes place after Chapter 1).
I created this artwork to illustrate one of the more important aspects of Shelby’s character. Although Shelby was taught how to use a gun, she never in her life imagined she would actually need to use it one day. The very thought of having to kill anyone or anything greatly disturbs her. She’s not your typical “kill everything in sight without giving a damn” action/adventure character. It’s one of the character aspects that separates her from most of the adventure heroines I’ve read/seen in other media.
I first created an artwork like this in November of 2016. I decided now to create a new version in Poser 12 Superfly with the updated Shelby Bly character. The new version isn’t an exact copy and it isn’t meant to be as I made various improvements. I think I like this version much better. It's not an easy thing to do, but there are times when you have no choice. Her reluctant determination is superbly portrayed here, Lizzie. The emotion of the moment comes through beautifully.
It's equally a challenge for writers as to when and how to show armed (or even unarmed) conflict resulting in death without making it look like one of those machine-gun-fests like you see in many movies. It's a delicate balance between how it affects the story and the excitement of the action. I've struggled with it a bit myself. It shouldn't be an end in itself - as it is too many times in movies, just to sell tickets.
Really looking forward to this adventure, Lizzie! 👍

Thanks so much, Rod. I'm looking forward to it too and working hard to get the adventure ready for its debut. :) I just hope I am able to live up to your expectations... and mine!

Thank you! I have often had trouble with expressions so I'm very glad to hear that I got this one right. Maybe I've finally gotten good at them. :D
