The strange statues remind me of the sphinx described in HG Wells time machine, I wonder if that is what was intended? A spooky little post-human void, maybe the last vestiges of the last human civilization, I guess we shall never know.
I used a metal iray render for the statues, which along with the glow from the HDRI illuminating the scene gives them a golden glow.
