Description

I have owned Dreamland's Movie Sets City Blocks 1 - 18 for longer than I care to mention. I love the lay out of them, the overall style, the low poly impact... but I've never actually been able to use them. That's because they are really made for Poser and I use DAZ Studio. The files come in to DS fine, they just take a bit of work to make them look good. Holidays at home left me with plenty of free time, so I decided to revisit the models. I started with the two sections that I found the most interesting; Block 14 (shown at the forefront) and Block 11 (the park in the background). The process involved working out the positioning, as the Poser sliders come into DS a little funky. Then updating all of the materials / shaders for Iray. The hardest part here was the vegetation and grass. Then came the lighting, which was time consuming to get set up. Then replacing the tree panels with some tree models. In order to keep the processing impact low, I made extensive use of instances for the lights and the "real" trees. The old trees were 2D panel images, which don't translate well to DS / Iray without a lot of work. So it was easier to just add a single tree and use Ultrascatter to create a multitude of instances.
