Description

I reused an old setting to present the Douglas D-588-II. One of the early test aircraft to explore high speed over 2 Mach. On 20 November 1953, shortly before the 50th anniversary of powered flight, Scott Crossfield piloted the Skyrocket to Mach 2, or more than 1,290 mph (2076 km/h), the first time an aircraft had exceeded twice the speed of sound.

Interesting render. The pilots of such aircrafts were very courageous, for sure!

Another nice historical piece! I agree about the courage. The pilot had to be professional on one hand, yet pretty adventurous (or a bit reckless!) to climb into any untested aircraft.
