So, I'm playing in a superhero TTRPG, as the character "Nebula." She's the one on the left. I've shown portraits of her before. A few days ago, we started to flesh out her family. Her father is a mercenary who goes by "Hell Razer." Her sister is a Vampire. We're both adopted, but Nebula (Real name Star) doesn't know that she is adopted, just her sister. (Yeah, it be complicated. Essentially Dad adopted a vampire child and me. My character is really an alien, but she doesn't know that either.) Anyways, all that aside, I decided to do a family portrait. We're using the "Masks" RPG system. My character is following the "Scion" playbook. The "Scion" is presented as the child of a villain. So while my Dad is a bad guy, and I got to deal with people assuming the worst of me, I'm a hero. Sis... well, she's probably evil. Probably. Lol. Agoape is the model for the Vampire, Sanjay 8 is the model for the father. Nebula is a mish-mash of a few different things. The idea here is she's turned her back on her father, who is still shielding her, and her sister is kinda ignoring everybody. Dad isn't evil - but at the beginning of the campaign Star believes he is. We've started on her origins in prep for the Big Moment the GM and I have planned. You see, I have a different character called Icarus (He's got a render around here) that will be killed off early on. First or second session. We wanted to add some impact to the campaign, and give the heroes a reason to be fighting. It's been fun plannign it, and as we run through some pre-game fun, I've grown a bit attached to him. Not that I'm going to suddenly change my mind. I'm attached because I know him well enough now to be attached, and to properly play out a heroic sacrifice. He's just a touch arrogant - basically he's Superman. He knows he's the best, but wants to PROVE it. And ultimately, he is a real hero who will make that sacrifice play. Nebula, on the other hand, is enrolled at a private boarding school populated by the children of villains, politicians, and corporate execs. The school is essentially grooming the next generation of criminals. Nebula starts out being kinda mean, because she knows what's going on and doesn't see herself that way. There's a hero inside her, waiting to get out. I'm also tying into a bit of the LGBT (Star is a lesbian), exploring the idea of hiding one's true self, and the damage that can do to the psyche. The game is set in '93, so a little rougher for the LGBT community. It's been interesting to see how the GM interacts - he was born in 2000, and so missed out on the 90s entirely, though he loves 90s superheroes. Should be a lot of fun! And this render? 2.5 hours to run. Versus my previous at 20 hours and only 50% completion. If nothing else is true, I'm getting a 3xxx card this year, lol.
