Description

Another image with the great B9 Robot model by Xcalpro, with new materials and lights I've added to make it suitable for DAZ and the Iray render engine.

I see you opted for a "partial" 1st season look with the "silver" control panel and claws but keeping the more vivid function buttons of the 2nd and 3rd years of the show. Without digging up color "behind the scenes" from 1965, I can't recall if the "twee" scanner dishes (looking a bit like spoons) were colored or not.

Reading your praise for XCalPro's model being the best warms my heart as I "buried" him with photos and elevations drawings when he started that project.

Recently, I tried to access his site but couldn't. I wonder if Tony let the domain" lapse" or "close" the site. Bit of a shame either way; another 3D asset resource "lost in (cyber)space".

Sincerely,

Bill

Hey, Bill. Yep, he's not fully first season; some of the chest buttons remain colored because I wasn't able to apply new materials without losing the lettering. I'm going to have to go and alter the original textures. Oh, and the "twee" dishes are actually silver, from what I've seen; easy enough to alter once I get the other changes sorted out. I would like to do work on his brain, but can't seem to isolate those surfaces; every time I make the attempt, it selects the entire bubble instead. More work to be done to figure that out.
BUT: he was still looking a LOT better, and I was very pleased with my solution to get the small blinker lights in his chest to resemble the actual pieces more closely, so I figured I'd do a couple of renders and put 'em up. And you've got my gratitude for helping with the references for the B9's construction. It's the little things that make or break how he looks, and I can tell those were attended to very well.

cheers, Roy

BTW: take a look at my Robby the Robot in my gallery. I built him in 3ds Max using a TON of photo reference and a copy of Robert Kinoshita's original drawings.

Hey there, I'm afraid I can't do that, as I don't own the model. It was originally produced by "XCalPro"; I only altered some of the textures and added lighting. Sorry.
