interesting idea, one thing you could try though. for the material try using a 3d noise shader, this will get rid of strange UV problems like on his cheek, also try using a bit of glow or putting a light in his center with the visibility turned on, should give you a nice firey effect

Thats pretty scarey you know :) looks like a Fire Elemental of some kind... (Could use one of those for the heating in here brrr brrr)
