Description
I am really not sure of the circumstances surrounding the lady's infamous ride in the buff but whatever the cause consider me signed on. Also I might add the attire of the town folk depicts something out of the Victorian era. This alleged ride took place a long time before that. While living in the honorable state of Arizona for a spell I actually took to horse riding. Fully clothed of course and I must admit at the end of a days ride the inside of my legs felt like chopped liver. I cannot imagine Lady G's torment. Reminds me of a song by Peter & Gordon:
"Seventeen, a beauty queen
She made a ride that caused a scene
In the town
Her long blonde hair
Hangin' down around her knees
All the cats who dig striptease
Prayin' for a little breeze
Her long blonde hair
Falling down across her arms
Hiding all the lady's charms
Lady Godiva.......".
Yeah, so much for that. Peace to you!

Godgifu, in the original Saxon, did it as a protest against excessive taxation by her husband the Earl of Mercia... this version... well, an altogether different narrative! Great looking lively scene.
...its is also where we get the phrase "peeping Tom" from, as in the original the streets were ordered cleared and the townsfolk to avert their eyes, but one man disobeyed and was struck blind...

Dang, I learn something everyday! Thank you for that info. That lady must have been a character. I just hoped her efforts paid off! I had always thought this story was taken out of the imagination of Hollywood writers. Glad to have read that it wasn’t.
