“I’m afraid this is where we leave you. The road from Ingal’s Arm lies about half a day’s walk that way and Delthuntle is less than an another south from there,” Courynn announced as he looked westward out over the scrub strown plane from the edge of the forest. After their nine-day trek from Relkath’s Foot. including the brief stop at the Woodsong tribe’s encampment, the trio had arrived at the western most reaches of the Yuirwood and, while he and Nymara were saddened to part company with the exotically beautiful sorceress, it was time to bid Lynneth farewell. She’d been decidedly quiet and even a bit moody since they parted with the wild elves, but he’d contributed it to her being reluctant to leave them as well. “It’s strange,” the gorgeous star elf mused wistfully. “This is where Sildeyuir ends. I never thought about what lay beyond here in this realm.” “What do you mean ‘Sildeyuir ends’… what’s beyond this point in your realm?” Lynneth asked curiously. She’d learned quite a bit about the twilight realm while traveling with her, likely a great deal more than even the most learned scholars in Delthuntle, but they’d never discussed this. “Nothing… just the sky. I suppose Sildeyuir is like a forest island surrounded by twilight,” Nymara replied thoughtfully. She couldn’t think of any other way to describe it. “So what happens if you step off the edge?” the sorceress inquired, her curiosity piqued. “I don’t know,” the bard answered thoughtfully. “I’ve never heard of anyone being foolish enough to try it… or at least not anyone who survived to tell the tale.” “Well, if you ever get tired of the woods and want to see what real civilization is like, come visit me,” the sorceress teased with a mischievous grin, embracing each of them affectionately before setting off westward. “So, what now?” Nymara questioned, watching the woman she regarded as a true friend, only the second human she’d met, walk off into the distance. For the first time since she arrived in the Yuirwood they didn’t have a defined purpose. “We head back into the forest,” Courynn replied sympathetically, turning her away from the sight of the departing sorceress. “As Lynneth would say… I’m sure we’ll find some kind of mischief to get ourselves into.” Before he’d met her, he spent his time wandering the woodlands with no real destination or goal, other than to provide what help he could to those who needed it, whether they appreciated it or not… which was most often the case. However, he’d seldom come so far west and wasn’t as familiar with this region of the Yuirwood as he was with the area around Relkath’s Foot. As they started off back amongst the thickening woods, Courynn couldn’t help but think about the threats to his forest home that they’d learned of recently, the logging by the northern coastal cities of Aglarond, the unknown danger so great it required a baelnorn mage of great power such as the Ancient to guard it and even the Thayan witch that sought to enslave the people who dwell there… wondering what new evil might await them.
