ENCYCLOPEDIA GALACTICA Edition 428193 - Earth English Definition: ’Blue Civilization’ A proposed language English1 designation for an extraterrestrial civilization whose birth world orbits or orbited a blue star. It is not a sanctioned classification by the IAU2 as there is no known example of such a civilization currently within the Milky Way Galaxy or known to have existed therein. Further, there is no report of such a civilization, past or present, from any other galaxy either explored or contacted through any civilization of the Community.3 Skeptics often cite four (4) reasons.
  1. Typically, blue stars (spectral class 'B' and 'O')4 do not form with the requisite heavy elements - Fe, Ni, Si, N, O and C - for substantive planetary and ecological building. Worlds are not impossible but not likely.
  2. The output of ionizing radiation (UV) for blue stars is four (4) to five (5) orders of magnitude greater than other main sequence stars. Such conditions, without protection, prevent formation of complex molecules requisite for life.
  3. Blue stars are not known to have a life expectancies sufficient for nurturing a technical civilization to fruition. Their hydrogen (H) fuel exhausting from one hundred (100) to four hundred (400) million (106) years.5 with such star going supernova at the end.
  4. There are no known artifacts conclusively connected to a membership evolved under a blue sun.
In response, supporters of the ’Blue Civilization’ designation cite the abundance of raw hydrogen (H) in the early universe. It is proposed that a massive blue giant may replenish itself if formed within a cold H cloud. Supplemental H fuel could fall into the star, extending it’s life. Possible if there is no further stellar formation within such a cloud. Also H in fall must be slow enough to avoid nova-like flare ups on the stellar surface. However, this process would still not provide required heavy elements for planetary and subsequent biosphere birth. This proposal is thus speculative and insufficient. Supporters also point to a handful of ancient mega structures such as EGO XNGC2403-2394-000000004. A non-contiguous spheroid 6.1 Earth diameters across located in galaxy NGC 2403.6 It consists of five (5) ‘plates’ which move together, maintaining relative separation as if a complete shell. The interior is home to several photo-consumptive ecologies supported by an electro-weak field barrier or 'sparkler' at the spheroid’s centre.7,8 The sparkler is tuned to produce variable electro-magnetic radiation consistent with a class B1 (blue) main sequence star. Approximate age is reported at 9.2 billion (109) years. And there is evidence of a brief technical habitation during its history. The spheroid is overlaid on bubble gravity.9 Though it is seven hundred and two (702) times larger than any observed in nature. The displaced mass resides in the nearby class M8 dwarf which the spheroid orbits.10 The displacement, at 0.5 AU, is also farther separated from its gravity well than natural membranes. And unlike natural bubble gravity, stable standing waves have been imposed that maintain plate separation. It was this anomaly which led to the object’s detection. However, detractors point to reports of the spheroid’s biodiversity having a common genesis with life forms found on the second natural planet of the red dwarf. Suggesting panspermia (accidental or deliberate) has occurred, with the invasive species adapting to the alien conditions of the spheroid.11 Though, the natural planetary biosphere in question is only 3.9 billion (109) years old. You certainly have a fertile imagination :) A Blue Sun sounds like it would be rather cold, hardly a "sun." Anyway, it's fun to imagine. Great image!

I know blue tends to conjure ideas of coldness but in reality red stars are the coldest kind of stars that still classify as stars. Anything that shines with a blue colour is hotter than red hot or even white hot. In most cases, blue stars are the brightest, hottest and largest of stars. They are also the ones most short lived and tend to die in a supernova explosion. Which also goes to why there is so little evidence of any blue civilizations left.

I read the narrative - twice. My head exploded... But what an awesome image, and I really do love the narrative.

Now we actually have video of what it looks like to land on another planet... If we don't incinerate ourselves first, we might actually become a space-faring species. Someday...
